Congratulations Dora!

I mistakenly left Dora Ward’s name off the list of Tocker Stipend Award winners.  Due to this award, Dora attended her first TLA Conference in 13 years of working for the Cooke County Library in Gainesville.

Checking In on Non-profits..

Texas libraries are associated with many types of nonprofit agencies, take time to determine if the nonprofit agencies associated with your library are filing the appropriate annual reports.  See this alarming report from the New York Times claiming that up to 25% of nonprofit agencies will lose their status May 16 due to failure to file tax revenue statements for three consecutive years.

Free information and support for forming and existing non-profit agencies is available through the Texas Association of Nonprofit Organizations.  Additional services are available to members or offer member discounts.  Membership fees are based on organization’s budgets.

THE STATE OF AMERICA’S LIBRARIES 2010

     an ALA REPORT

We know our libraries are busy and we know we play a significant role in helping Americans find work, start businesses, maintain contact with family and friends, and provide access to e-government services.  This chapter of the report quantifies these and other contributions public libraries offer our communities.  This report (and OCLC’s How libraries stack up: 2010) makes compelling arguments for support of libraries.

SNAP!  Help TLA and TSLAC supplement these reports with a Texas report with data from your Library Snapshot Day.

Get on the Bus – FREE Online Reference Training

In the spirit of the 23 Things program, Wyoming State Library offers their recently completed series of online webinars, Get on the bus, Revving up your reference skills.  The webinars are archived so you can access them at your convenience :-)  but because they are archived you’ll not be eligible for the prizes offered ;-(  nor will you be able to call in to ask questions.
